Add medications to MAR
Path: Patient>Clinical>MAR
You can add medications to a newly created inactive (see Create MAR) or to an already existing active MAR (see Activating MAR).
Note: If you are adding a medication for a patient through the Medications window and there is an active MAR for this patient, you will be asked to add this medication to MAR.
To add medications to MAR:
- In the MAR window, ensure that the appropriate MAR and the Add/Edit Meds mode are selected (click Add/Edit Meds). This mode is not available for deactivated MARs. Note: The Add/Edit Meds mode requires a special operator's privilege and is available in Host Mode only.
- Click one of the following buttons:
- Add Scheduled Medications – To add regular medications listed in the Medications window to MAR.
- Add PRN Medication – To add PRN medications listed in the Medications window to MAR. Tip: You can double-click in the corresponding section in the grid instead of clicking the buttons.
- In the dialog that opens, select the medication to add to MAR, and then click Add. When adding medication groups, for regular medications—each Dose & Frequency appears as a separate item to add, for PRN medications—only master record appears. Tip: You can select several medications at a time by pressing the Ctrl key. You can double-click the medication instead of clicking Add.
- Depending on whether you are adding a regular or PRN medication proceed with the following:
- Regular
-
The Define Frequency dialog opens.
-
Specify the duration of this medication in MAR (a particular day or the date range). The medication must be active for the defined day or period. If the medication has start and end time defined and is not active during the whole day, the corresponding cells become inactive for documenting in the Document mode.
-
Specify the medication frequency (predefined or custom).
-
Click OK. If you selected to add several medications at a time, a separate Define Frequency dialog opens for each medication.
-
Close the Define Frequency dialog.
-
-
PRN
-
The Define Range dialog opens.
-
Specify the duration of this PRN medication in MAR (a particular day or the date range). The medication must be active for the defined day or period. If the medication has start and end times defined and is not active during the whole day, the corresponding cells for the first and the last days of activity are marked with the '!' sign.
-
Click OK. If you selected to add several medications at a time, a separate Define Range dialog opens for each medication.
-
Close the Define Range dialog. The added medications appear correspondingly under the Scheduled orders (for regular medications) and PRN sections in the grid.
-
Save your changes.
-
- Regular

You have defined the MAR but it is not active. Proceed with Activate MAR.
