About Telemedicine functionality

Netsmart Homecare offers a solution to the clients for integration of clinical monitoring data from TeleHealth vendors with an established client relationship. The solution uses HL7 messaging to:

  • send patient data to the TeleHealth vendor (via ADT messages)
  • receive clinical data from the TeleHealth vendor (via ORU messages)

The goal of the TeleHealth vendor integration is to display the data captured by the TeleHealth device in a comprehensive display for the clinician. This display is provided by the Netsmart Homecare Clinical Monitoring screens.

Using the Telemedicine functionality within Netsmart Homecare, you can exchange clinical monitoring data with different devices of different vendors with the help of HL7 standard. HL7 ORU R01 message is used for transmitting clinical monitoring data.

The process of receiving ORU R01 messages through Telemedicine interface requires interaction with the HL7 Inbound Message Processing functionality by the user.

  • As with the outbound processing, you should define inbound ORU R01 message processing setting after the installation.
  • However, after receiving the message, the user can complete, leave in the inbox, decline, or delete the message.
  • The Telemedicine functionality provides the possibility to receive two types of ORU R01 messages:
    • standard clinical monitoring data
    • note update messages
  • The information received through these messages can further be accessed from Netsmart Homecare application and used by clinicians.
  • The process of inbound ORU R01 message processing is illustrated in the flow diagram in the Inbound ORU R01 processing article.
  • Refer also to the Telemedicine in Netsmart Homecare Application to learn about areas of application that are impacted when processing ORU R01 messages.
