Order Entry Clinical Screening
Clinical Screening allows you to review pharmacy orders for possible interactions when orders are copied, discontinued, held, resumed, or renewed.
Clinical screening in myAvatar Order Entry is performed by a third-party drug database such as First Databank or Micromedex. These drug databases are used to:
- screen orders for drug-to-drug interactions
- check for clinical contraindications
- issue drug-to-allergy warnings
- provide client education monographs
A background process will run once a day to check for out-of-date data conditions in the First Databank or Micromedex database that is used by myAvatar Order Entry. If an out-of -date condition is detected, an alert will be sent periodically to Netsmart via Guardiant until the out-of-date condition is resolved.
Preauthorized orders can be clinically screened when they are activated.
To include client allergies as part of the clinical screening process, use the Include In Clinical Screening extended data element for Status in the CWS dictionary file.
To use Clinical Screening:
- Enable clinical screening with the Clinical Screening Feature Available registry setting.
- Set up defaults for clinical screening with the Order Entry Clinical Screening System Defaults form.
- Enter allergy information in the Allergen/Reactant Code Setup form.
