Allergen/Reactant Code Setup
Define allergen and reactant codes used in clinical screening.

- Allergen codes can be imported using the Allergen Code Load/Update Utility Via FDB Database or Allergen Code Load/Update Utility Via Micromedex form. When allergen codes are imported, they can overwrite codes that have already been defined in myAvatar Order Entry.
- In the Add/Edit Allergen Code field, select Add or Edit. Either enter a new allergen code or search for an existing allergen code. For a new user-defined allergen code, the allergen code automatically begin with the prefix 'USERalg'. For an existing allergen code, the description and allergy type display.
- In the Allergen Description field enter a description.
- In the Require Comments field, select Yes to make the Comments field required for the allergen.
- In the Allergy Type field, select the category for the allergen.
- Click List All Allergen/Reactant Codes to view all allergen codes in myAvatar Order Entry.
- If appropriate, select Deactivate Allergen Code to make the allergen code inactive. The allergen code is prevented from being used in Order Entry but is not deleted. The allergen code can be reactivated by deselecting this field.
- In the Allergy Screening - Type of Value field, select how the allergen is screened when orders are processed.
- No Screening - Clinical screening is not performed for the allergen.
- FDB Allergen Group ID - The group code is screened in the First DataBank database.
- Representative Order Code - The order code is screened.
- Representative NDC - The NDC code is screened.
- Allergen Code is FDB Ingredient ID - The FDB allergen group ID is screened.
User-defined allergen codes cannot be defined as First DataBank ingredient IDs. - Micromedex MAS Allergy ID - The Micromedex allergy ID is screened.
- Click Submit.
