Allergen/Reactant Code Setup

Define allergen codes that contain First Data Bank (FDB) allergen group IDs, NDC codes, or order codes containing an NDC code.

  • Allergen codes can be imported through the Allergen Code Load/Update Utility Via FDB Database form (Avatar Order Entry).
  • When codes are imported they can overwrite codes that have been defined in myAvatar Order Entry.
  • To override the allergy type associated with particular codes, use the Override Allergy Type For The Following Allergens dictionary.

  1. Go to: Avatar CWS > CWS Utilities > Allergen/Reactant Code Setup
  2. Choose whether to add or edit a new allergen code.
    • In the Add/Edit Allergen Code field, select Add.
      • In the New Allergen Code field, enter the allergen code and description.
    • In the Add/Edit Allergen Code field, select Edit.
      • In the Existing Allergen Code field enter the allergen code, click Process Search to select. Click Ok.
  3. To make an allergen code inactive, select Deactivate Allergen Code. The allergen code is prevented from being used in Order Entry but is not deleted.
  4. In the Allergen Description field, enter the allergen description.
  5. In the Require Comments field, select Yes to make the Comments field required for the allergen (Allergies And Hypersensitives form).
  6. In the Allergy Type field, select the type of allergy.
  7. Click List All Allergen/Reactant Codes to view all codes in myAvatar CWS.
    • FDB allergen fields display when the FDB database is installed.
  8. In the Allergy Screening - Type Of Value field, select how the allergen is screened when orders are processed.
    • No Screening - Clinical Screening is not performed for the allergen.
    • FDB Allergen Group Code - The group code is screened. Select the group IDs from the FDB Allergen Group IDs field. Choices display in the Selected FDB Allergen Group IDs field.
    • Representative Order Code - The order code is screened. Search for and select the order code in the Representative Order Code field, choosing whether to search for a results that include your search value (Contains search string), or only those that begin with your search value (Starts with search string).
    • Representative NDC - The NDC code is screened. Enter the NDC code in the Representative NDC field.
    • Allergen Code is FDB Ingredient ID - The FDB allergen group ID is screened. 
  9. In the Interface Code and Interface Description fields, enter the NAPPI interface code and description.
  10. In the Micromedex MAS Allergy IDs field, select the IDs. (The Micromedex MAS code is screened.)
    The Selected Micromedex MAS Allergy IDs field displays the selections made.
  11. In the ARRA Measures fields, select appropriate values to be used in ARRA Measures reporting.
  12. Click Submit.
