Set up Options for editing clinical entries

Clinicians using field devices should be able to edit any of their clinical documentation before disconnecting from the Field device—that is, before the documentation is uploaded to Host Mode during synchronization. After the clinical documentation is in Host Mode, only a user with the appropriate rights can edit it. This restriction ensures the integrity of the documentation after the clinician has electronically signed it.

Give the appropriate users the right to edit locked clinical entries:

  1. Go to Administration > Configuration > Operators > Privileges.
  2. Select Yes, for my own and other's entries in the Can alter locked clinical entries row under Operator Privileges.
  3. Save your changes.

OR

Give the appropriate roles or groups the right to edit locked clinical entries:

  1. Go to Administration > Configuration > Roles > Privileges.
  2. Select Yes, for my own and other's entries in the Can alter locked clinical entries row under Operator Privileges.
  3. Save your changes.

Determine the length of time after entry that a clinical entry can be changed:

  1. Go to Administration > Configuration > Business Units > Settings > Clinical Miscellaneous.
  2. In the Lock out clinical changes after        day(s) field, enter the number of days after entry that a clinical entry can be changed.

This setting refers to clinical documentation on the host. Only a user with rights can edit clinical documentation that was originally entered on a field device, then uploaded to the host during synchronization. The user can make edits only during the time period shown in this setting. If clinicians entered clinical documentation directly on the host, they can edit that documentation themselves during the time period shown in this setting.

Note: Setting this option to zero (0) does not lock. To lock immediately on host when saved, set to -1. Locking is done based on date entered, not effective date.
