Create a letter using Word

Although the steps outlined in this document are for the creation of bereavement letters, the same method can be used to generate other types of letters as well.

  1. Access Word and either create a new letter to export or select a pre-existing letter.
  2. If an existing letter is used:
    1. Remove the return address from the top margin of the letter and type: {Print_Letter_ Address} within the brackets as shown.
    2. Remove the date and insert {Today}.
    3. Remove the salutation from the existing letter and insert {Salutation} in place of the recipient's first name.
  3. In Word, save the letter. If you use Windows 2000, save the file as a text-only file. If you use Windows XP, save the file as Plain Text.
