Administration Event details section
Record specifics about the medication administration on the Administration Event dialog.
- Check the Witnessed box to indicate that the administration was witnessed by a second party. This box cannot be unchecked once submitted. Witnesses are required when the Require a Witness in myAvatar eMAR field is enabled on the Order Code Setup form. When required, you will need to enter the witness in the Witnessed By field, and the Password for that user.
- Checking First Dose will automatically generate a follow-up reminder for the administration. A follow-up reminder allows recording of comments and observations on the order administration. This box is checked if the order was defined as a First Dose in myAvatar Order Entry. This Follow-up reminder is a copy of the original order and will display "Follow-up" in the current date cell.
- When selected, the follow-up will display an administration window which now includes the following fields:
- Result
- Result Observed By (currently logged in user)
- Result Date/Time
- Entered By
- Entered On
Note: Use the eMAR Follow-Up Reminder fields in the Order Code Setup form and the follow-up reminder extended attributes for the Order Type dictionary in myAvatar Order Entry to define how follow-up reminders are handled.
- If an order code is set up in myAvatar Order Entry with the eMAR Follow-Up Reminder field set to Yes, follow-up reminders are generated for successful administration events in myAvatar eMAR.
- For sliding scale insulin orders (defined in myAvatar Order Entry), an SSI column displays. Click the SSI button in the column to display a grid for selecting the dose based on the blood glucose level.
- The Administration Event selections are defined in a user-defined dictionary.
- The route comes directly from the order code that was used to create the order in Avatar Order Entry. Different values can be selected during an administration event only. The routes available are those from the Route of Administration dictionary in myAvatar Order Entry.
- In myAvatar Order Entry, use the extended attribute Require Site During myAvatar eMAR Administration for the Route of Administration dictionary to require the administration site to be entered.
- An administration event that occurs outside the allowable time window for an order triggers a warning. An example would be an allowable administration time window that is set to 30 minutes before or after a scheduled time and an administration that occurs more than 30 minutes before or after the scheduled administration time. To determine the allowable administration time window for each order, eMAR will first look at the Administration Window value in the Order Code Setup form to determine if an allowable time window is defined for the order code. If no time window is defined, eMAR will use the value specified by the Allow Administration Events for # of Minutes From Schedule Time registry setting. Click the flag in the Warning column to display a dialog box that includes the warning message and a field for entering override text. To add an Override Code field to the warning, use the Use Override Code - Administration Date/Time Alert registry setting.
- Entering a Warning Override Code will override a warning that a medication and/or quantity mismatch has been detected between what was ordered and what is being administered. If a warning occurs and this field is displayed, the user must enter a response to continue with the administration event. If a warning occurs and the Warning Override Code field is not displayed, the user is required to enter Warning Override Text that gives a reason for continuing with the administration event. To make the Warning Override Text required, use the Require Override Text With This Override extended attribute of the Medication/Quantity Checking Override Code dictionary.
- The Administered By field automatically defaults to the currently logged in user and is read-only by default. To allow selection of a different user, set the Disable Administered by Field registry setting to No.
