Route of Administration - Dictionary Value

Route of Administration is a locked dictionary in the Dictionary Update form (Order Entry Tabled Files - data element 10181 - Route of Administration).

This dictionary has the following extended data elements that can be edited:

  • 10182 - Preferred Description
  • 10183 - Require Site During myAvatar eMAR Administration Event
  • 10185 - NCI Thesaurus for Route of Administration

The Route of Administration dictionary codes are sent to myAvatar eMAR and are available in the Route field of the Administration Event window.

During installation of Avatar Order Entry 2011 Enhancement 44 (U-71), codes in the Route of Administration dictionary will be associated automatically with the NCI Thesaurus for Route of Admission codes. Those Route of Admission codes that do not have a corresponding NCI Thesaurus for Route of Administration code will be inactivated and disallowed for future use. The following Route of Administration codes are inactivated:

  • GU = GU IRRIGANT
  • IL = URINARY BLADDER
  • IMR = IMMERSE (SOAK) BODY
  • IP = IMPLANTATION
  • IT = INTRATRACHEAL
  • MR = MULTIPLE ROUTES
  • MTH = MOUTH/THROAT
  • NT = NASOTRACHIAL TUBE
  • OTH = OTHER/MISCELLANEOUS
  • PF = PERFUSION
  • SD = SOAKED DRESSING
  • TL = TRANSLINGUAL
  • WND = WOUND

In the Route of Administration dictionary and the Route of Administration Mapping form, the inactivated values are labeled as 'Inactive' while those that are not inactive contain the 'NCI Thesaurus for Route of Administration extended data element, as shown below.
