Duration cannot exceed xx days

When completing the Final Review in Order Entry Console for Orders This Episode an error may be see n that notes the duration of the order cannot exceed a certain amount. This article explains the error message and how to resolve and prevent it.

Details

When entering orders using the Order Entry Console while in External Pharmacy Mode the following message may be displayed after completing the Final Review process:

Duration Cannot Exceed Days Error.PNG

This can happen if the amount of medication that is being prescribed does not match up to the order's duration. In order to resolve this the number of refills and the days supply should produce the duration. The following formula is used in the logic to determine if the amounts are correct:

(Number of Refills + 1) x Days Supply = Order Duration

Correcting the Error

In the example below the order has a duration of 30 days but only a 28 days supply. To correct the order the user would only need to either change the duration to 28 days or change the days supply to 30. This would make the equation calculate correctly.

In the case of a longer order you might have a 180 day duration. In this case you would write the order to have a 30 days supply with 5 refills.

(5 refills + 1) x 30 days supply = 180 day duration

We always add 1 to the number of refills to account for the initial fill (in this case there are 6 total fills of the medication).

If your facility typically writes order for a specified duration you might adjust the Default Days Supply in the External Pharmacy Setup form.
