Term Description

Patient

A person receiving services from a home health or hospice agency. Patients are defined in the Patient component of Netsmart Homecare and their information is available in the Schedule component. Relevant patient information includes demographics, physician, diagnoses, caregiver data, status, visit frequency, and current clinical summary.

Resource

Persons, places, and things associated with a particular event can be scheduled in Netsmart Homecare. Resources are defined in the Resource component of Netsmart Homecare and include full-time staff, contractors, volunteers, laboratories, pharmacies, supplies, and others. Each individual resource is assigned a Resource Type and is associated with a Discipline.

Discipline

Different types of services offered by a home health or hospice agency, such as skilled nursing, speech therapy, medical social services, and others. Disciplines are defined in Administration>Clinical>Disciplines. In the Disciplines window, you can specify important information about a specific discipline, such as whether medications should be included in the care plan for the discipline or whether a signature is required in the care plan for the discipline.

Events

All events, apart from "activities", consist of an engagement between a patient and a resource. Each scheduled event appears as a blue rectangle on all calendar views. Different event statuses appear as different colored boxes on these blue rectangles, and these colors can be customized. The types of events supported include:

  • Staff visits
  • Telephone calls
  • Professional services provided by contractors
  • Goods and equipment provided by contractors

Activities

Non-patient events that can be scheduled for resources, such as meetings, conferences, and vacations. Activities are highlighted in different colors in the Schedule component, and these colors can be customized.

Availability

Times defined for staff members in the Schedule component, showing when they are available for scheduling events.

Patient Notes

General, scheduling-related notes that can be recorded for a patient in Patient Mode. If there are scheduling notes for the selected patient, a screen tip reading "Patient Notes Exist" appears when you pause on the  button on the toolbar.

Verify

Confirm within the Schedule that a scheduled event took place and can be billed. Verification can be done for individual events by selecting a check box within an event on the Schedule, or for multiple events by clicking the Verify button in the lower right of the Schedule window.

Toolbar
