Test Designer Interface
In the NX Test Designer, utilize the Test List, Properties Panes, and Toolbox in designing tests. See Test Designer How-To for more information.
Test Designer Properties
The Test Designer workspace is divided into the following areas.
- Test List - List of all system-delivered and user-defined tests for a chosen category (People, Profiles, Family Cases)
- Properties panes - Hierarchical view of the selected test(s). The thumbtack displayed in the P1 column of the Test List will turn black when that test is displayed in Pane 1.
- Tool Bar - Displays actions that can be taken on the test or view.
- Toolbox - Includes the functions and components available when building a test.

- ► Test List
-
The Test List is an alphabetical list of all tests in the particular category (people, profiles/groups, or family cases).
- Red check mark - identifies the test is in use
- Person icon - indicates a user-defined test
- Pushpin - click to pin the test to Pane 1 or Pane 2 in the workspace. P1 displays on the left side of the workspace and P2 on the right side.
- Preview icon - click to preview the test in a separate window

In the Test List you can Search for a test and Sort tests.
- ► Properties Panes
-
The workspace is divided into Properties Pane 1 (P1) and Pane 2 (P2). This is where you load the tests to be worked on. The P1 and P2 panes show a hierarchical view of the test. Each level is identified by a label (Test, Test Header, and so on).
- Test
- Test header
- Test Questions
- Test Group
- Test items (single answer, multiple answers, narrative, and so on)
- Test Group
Within a Test Group each item is labeled and identified by an icon. These icons also appear in the Toolbox. Click the up or down arrow to the left of an item to expand or collapse it. For example, click the down arrow in the Test Header row to see test header details.

Actions menu
Click the Actions button to see a menu of available options for that item. The options vary depending on the item.
- Cancel - Cancel the changes for test lines in a group.
- Close - Close the test. This applies to the Test and Test Header only.
- Copy - Copy the item. This applies to the Test, Test Header, and group items. You are prompted to enter a Test Code and Test Name for the new test or test item. The new test is added to the Test List in alphabetical order.
- Delete - Delete a user-defined test or items within a test. The test or test items marked for deletion display with a red strikethrough line.
- History - For the selected test or test item, display the history of changes.
- Preview - Preview the test in a separate window. This applies to the Test and Test Header only.
- Test
- ► Toolbox
-
The Toolbox pane lists all items that can be created on a test.

- Test Group - The Test Group is a special item that is both a container and a test line. All other items in the Toolbox are test lines. The purpose of the Test Group container is to organize all test lines that belong to that group. This allows you to expand or collapse the entire group.
- Single Answer - This is used when there can only be one answer to a question. For example, have you had symptoms within the last 3 days?
- Multiple Answers - This is used when there may be more than one answer selected. For example, which of following symptoms have you had?
- Date - This displays the calendar picker to answer a question that relates to a specific date. For example, when did your symptoms begin?
- Narrative - Free-text field used to capture narrative responses.
- Numeric - Only numeric values can be entered here. For example, how many seizures have you had in the past 3 months?
- Picklist - Similar to single select, however, the available options are predefined. These are pulling from a look up table.
- Report - This adds a sub-report in the test. This works the same as adding a sub-report shown in Form Designer.
Click a toolbox item and press and hold the left mouse button. Drag the item to where you want to add it to the test. See the article Test Designer Drag-and-Drop Functionality for more information on using this feature in NX Test Designer.
