Allergen Code Load/Update Utility via FDB Database
Import multiple allergen codes from the First Databank knowledge base of drug interaction and reference to populate the Allergen Code dictionary in myAvatar Order Entry.
Prerequisites:
- FDB data is provided in a monthly update that must be applied/installed using an FDB-supplied Java applet. That applet uses a JDBC connection to update the FDB database tables stored in Cache in their own separate namespace (usually called FDB or FDBDBASE). Included in those tables are several that contains allergen and related information.
- The allergen code load/update utility can be run after the initial load of the First Databank database and after incremental updates are applied. This process queries the FDB allergen-related tables and uses that data to build Allergen Codes in the appropriate myAvatar dictionary. The First Databank database includes drug-to-drug interactions, drug-to-allergy warnings, drug-to-disease checking, and client education monographs.
- When a new allergy is added or a current allergy is modified, the client's current medications are checked against the allergen for drug and allergy interactions. If any interaction is found, a message displays in myAvatar Order Entry that describes the interaction. For allergies, the First Databank screening process supports the use of allergen codes using specified NDCs, in addition to using First Databank allergen group IDs.
- The Allergen Code dictionary in myAvatar CWS can be updated by either the Allergen Code Load/Update Utility Via FDB Database form or the Allergen/Reactant Code Setup form in myAvatar CWS. As a result, it is possible that user-defined codes in the Allergen Code dictionary could be updated/overwritten during the Allergen Code Load/Update process with descriptions that are entirely different from their starting descriptions. Review the audit reports available with this process to check for potential problems.
- A backup copy of the Allergen Code dictionary is made at the start of the load/update process. If problems are detected, click Restore Allergen Code Dictionary That Existed Prior to Last Load/Update to restore the allergen dictionary that existed prior to the last upload.
- Importing allergen codes may overwrite user-defined codes that have been defined in myAvatar Order Entry.
- As a best practice, it is recommended that user-defined allergen codes be named with a special prefix, such as "USERalg".
- It is recommended to generate an audit report (click Print Audit Report For Latest Load/Update Process) to verify user-defined codes.
- If clinical screening is available and the Send Message To All Terminals When Screening Database Out of Date registry setting is enabled, an alert displays on the RADplus 2010 banner screen indicating the screening database needs to be updated. Use the Order Code Load/Update Utility Via FDB Database and the Allergen Code Load/Update Utility Via FDB Database forms to update the First Databank database.
- If Guardiant is used with myAvatar Order Entry, a background process will run once a day to check for out-of-date data in the First Databank database being used. If the process detects an out-of-date condition, Guardiant will periodically send an alert to Netsmart until the out-of-date condition is resolved.
- The allergen code load/update process takes into account myAvatar Order Entry allergen codes that are mapped from the First Databank database to the Micromedex Red Book database.
To hide the Allergen Code Load/Update Utility Via FDB Database form to prevent its use, use the myAvatar CWS registry setting Enable Allergen Search Web Service. This is a one-time setup process that involves using Netsmart's cloud-based Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), so be sure you understand the implications before using this registry setting.
- Go to: Avatar Order Entry > Order Entry System Definitions > Allergen Code Load/Update Utility Via FDB Database
- In the Namespace That Contains The First Databank Database field, enter the namespace.
- In the Create/Update Additional Allergen Codes Directly From FDB Allergen Group IDs field, select Yes to create allergen codes from the FDB database. For example, a "Penicillin" code could be created in addition to codes for specific penicillin medicines.
- Click Process Allergen Code Load/Update to submit the loaded allergen codes. The Allergen Code Audit Report displays allergen codes that have been imported, updated or inactivated through the loading process.
- Click Print Audit Report For Latest Load/Update Process to view a report of information on the last allergen code upload.
- If needed, click Restore Allergen Code Dictionary That Existed Prior To Last Load/Update to return the allergen codes to the way they were before the allergen import was performed.
