Quick Medication Order

Use the Quick Medication Order form in myAvatar AM NX to create and edit directions provided by a prescribing practitioner for administering a specific medication to a client.

Prerequisites:

  • Medication types must be entered prior to entering medication orders.
  • If template order types are used, the template must be created prior to entering the medication order.
  1. Go to: Avatar AM > Avatar AM Options > Quick Medication Order.
  2. Select the ordering practitioner from the Ordering Practitioner dropdown list.
  3. Required. For Medication Type, choose a current, active medication received into inventory from the dropdown list.
  4. Required. Select the Effective Date when the medication order takes effect.
  5. Required. Select the Expiration Date when the medication order expires.
Note: You have the option to allow dosing on the expiration date.
  6. Required. Choose the Order Type:
    • Template - Use this order type to assign a specific dosing schedule that is not based on a standard week. For example, there may be a two-week schedule: week one includes clinic visits every day, and week two includes clinic visits for each week day and takeouts for the weekend.
    • Short - Use this order type if the client is either guest dosing at the facility or is assigned a short order so that a reevaluation can be completed to establish a more permanent dosing schedule.
    • Program - Use this order type to create a taper program where the dosage is reduced over a period of time at regular intervals. For instance, the taper program may begin at 50 mg and be reduced by 5 mg every 90 days.
    • Recurring - Use this order type for a set schedule of clinic and takeout visits based on the days of the week. A common recurring schedule is clinic visits Monday through Friday and takeout for Saturday and Sunday.
