Veteran Status - Cal-PM SOGI Enhancements

As part of the SOGI Enhancements, the California User Group (CAUG) requested that updates also be made to how Veteran Status information is collected.

Pre-SOGI Enhancements, the Veteran Status fields were collected as part of a client’s episodic Admission record. Since an individual’s Veteran Status is unlikely to change based upon the episode, the request was made to move these fields to be collected as part of an individual’s demographic record. The impacted Veteran Status fields include:

  • Veteran
  • Military Branch Of Service
  • Military Service From
  • Military Service To
  • Military Related Disability

Prior to installing the SOGI Enhancements, Veteran Status information could be collected in the Admission form in the Other Client Data section:

Enhancements

The Veteran Status fields have been removed from the Other Client Data section of the Admission and Admission (Outpatient) forms.
The Veteran Status fields have been added to the Update Client Data form and added to the Demographics section of the following forms:

  • Admission
  • Admission (Outpatient)
  • Discharge
  • Discharge (Outpatient)
  • Pre Admit
  • Pre Admit Discharge

Note: Form Designer changes for Veteran Status fields were included in Avatar Cal-PM 2022 Update 80. It may be necessary to revert to the Netsmart Produced Changes Form Designer version for the Update Client Data form for field changes to be reflected if not present following the product update installation.

Table Updates

The SYSTEM.patient_current_demographics and SYSTEM.patient_demographic_history have been updated with the following columns:

  • veteran_code
  • veteran_value
  • military_related_dis_code
  • military_related_dis_value
  • military_branch_code
  • military_branch_value
  • military_service_from_date
  • military_service_through_date

Conversion

Upon installation of Avatar Cal-PM 2022 Update 80, a conversion of existing episodic Veteran Status information will occur. A conversion of this information was required since the structure of the information was changed from episodic admission data to non-episodic client demographic data. The Client Demographic Veteran Status information will be populated with values based upon the most recent episode/Admission record (based on Pre-admit or Admission Date value).
