Order Entry Source - Dictionary Value

Order Entry Source is a locked dictionary in the Dictionary Update form (Order Entry Tabled Files - data element 502 - Order Entry Source).

This dictionary has the following extended data elements that can be edited:

  • 503 - Require Read-Back Confirmation. Select 'Yes' to display a field for confirming that the order was read to the ordering practitioner. The system will require a value in this field in order to save the order, but it will not require that the value equal Yes.
  • 528 - Electronic Source - Select 'Yes' to indicate the order was entered electronically. This extended attribute is used in calculations for certain Meaningful Use Measures.

 During installation of Avatar Order Entry 2011 Enhancement 44 (U-71), the Electronic Source extended attribute is populated automatically. Order Entry Source dictionary codes that appear to be for handwritten, verbal, telephone, and faxed orders will be set to Electronic Source = 'No' while all other Order Entry Source dictionary codes will be set to Electronic Source = 'Yes'. Review these settings and modify them as needed.
