Order Category - Dictionary Value

Order Category is a locked dictionary in the Dictionary Update form (Order Entry Client Information - data element 20053).

Values are:

  • D = Discharge Order
  • H = History-Only Order
  • L = Leave Order
  • N = Other Order

This dictionary has the following extended data elements that can be edited. These maximums are enforced when creating and updating orders in the Client Profile / Physicians Orders form.

  • 20353 - Maximum Value Allowed for 'Expected Days Supply' - This value controls the maximum days supply that can be specified for a pharmacy order for a particular order category. If the days supply exceeds this maximum value, an error message displays.
  • 20354 - Maximum Value Allowed for '# of Refills Allowed' - This value controls the number of refills allowed for a particular order code. If the number of refills exceeds this maximum value, an error message displays.

 The maximum limit derived from the order code will supersede the value defined via these order category extended attributes whenever the order code value is lower. For example, if the order code is for a "Schedule III" controlled substance with a maximum limit of "5" refills and the extended attribute refill limit is "10," the order code "5" refills maximum is used.

The extended attribute for the order category will prevail when it is lower than the maximum allowed value derived from the order code. If no entries are defined in the extended attributes, then the maximum value derived from the order code will be used.
