While not currently used for anything, it may be used a later for subsequent functionality. The available options and their meanings are:

Form - Unit that communicates how the medication will be delivered and must be used in conjunction with the strength of the selected product to communicate a medication dose (i.e. tab(s).

Strength - Unit that communicates a quantity associated with a medication and could stand alone as a medication dose (i.e. mg).

Volume - Unit that communicates a quantity of liquid but must be used in conjunction with the strength of the selected product to communicate a medication dose (i.e. ml).

Rx Icon.png When an external pharmacy has been indicated, the user will only be presented with those dose units that are defined as either Form or Volume.

Below is a list of recommended values to include in this dictionary, including the NKID value for each. The NKID value should not be changed from what is listed below. If your organization has a dose unit not listed here, contact Netsmart if you need assistance in determining the most appropriate NKID value for that unit.

For reference, Netsmart used the following industry standards when creating the NKID: National Cancer Institute (NCI), SNOMED (SCT) and Unified Codes for Unit of Measure (UCUM).

Rx Icon.png When an external pharmacy has been defined, the system will not use the dose unit dictionary. Instead, it will use a standard OrderConnect dictionary. Based on logic dependent on drug form and route, the system will default the appropriate dose unit if it can do so safely.
