About Clinical Pathways

A clinical pathway (also known as a care pathway, integrated care pathway, critical pathway or care amp) is one of the main tools used to manage the quality in healthcare concerning the standardization of care processes.

Netsmart has developed a tool within myAvatar to better identify and track clients/patients that are defined on clinical pathways. The concept of the tool is to be able enroll clients/patients in a pathway that is not limited by the episode of care. Clinical Pathways are a powerful tool that is highly configurable based on an organization’s services as well as the population that is served.

There are many possibilities of what a clinical pathway could be, as organizations are permitted to create their own. Some examples of clinical pathways are:

  • Zero Suicide: For clients/patients experiencing suicidal thoughts or ideation, a clinical pathway allows clinicians to be alerted and be proactive regarding suicide prevention and measures of treatment.
  • Aggression: For clients/patients prone to verbal or physical aggression, a clinical pathway allows clinicians to be alerted and be proactive regarding safety precaution.
  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing: For clients/patients that are deaf or hard of hearing, a clinical pathway allows clinicians to be alerted and be proactive regarding communication approach and style.
  • Risk of Binge eating: For clients/patients diagnosed with binge eating disorder, a clinical pathway allows clinicians to be alerted and be proactive regarding nutrition and meal monitoring.

The enrollment can be based on user-modeled assessments and two product assessments: Columbia Suicide Risk Assessment and Columbia SRA since last visit.
