About Dictionaries

In myAvatar, dictionaries provide a listing of the acceptable responses for specified fields.

You can update many of the dictionaries in myAvatar to meet a variety of business needs. For example, if a scheduler needs to create an appointment, you can configure a dictionary to allow them to choose from a list of locations specific to your facility. Through extended dictionary values, these individualized locations can be mapped to the CMS-defined location codes reported with your billing claims.

Dictionary values may be locked by design or, in the case of modeled (customized) forms, locked by the system administrator. Locking a dictionary prevents it from being modified, depending on the security level.

In addition, locking a dictionary can change the sort order and display. If there are fewer than 20 entries in the dictionary, locking it will change the sort order from Dictionary Code to Dictionary Value.

Locking a dictionary
  • Locking a Single Select dictionary will change the display from a drop-down list to a radio button selection.
  • Locking a Multiple-Response Dictionary changes the display from a scroll box to check boxes. If there are more than 49 values, then the display is a search box. Single Select will be a single search. Multiple Select allows multiple searches and displays the selections in a Current Order field.
