Placing server into install mode
The server must be switched to Install Mode before installing applications that need to be available to multiple users. A Citrix or Terminal Server can be placed into Install mode using one of the following methods:
- Run Change user /install from a command prompt to place the server into Install mode and install the application. After installing the application, use the Change user /execute command (or restart the server) to place the server back into Execute mode before using the application.
- Using the Install Application on Terminal Server (or Install Application on Remote Desktop Server) tool in Control Panel\Programs. This tool is available only when installed with Citrix/Terminal Server. It will automatically put the server into execute mode when application installation is complete.
Steps using command prompt
The following steps explain how to put the server into Install Mode from a command prompt. Only members of the Administrators group may enable Install Mode.
- Open a command prompt using elevated privileges. Right-click on the command prompt icon and choose "Run as Administrator."
- Type change user /install.
- Install software as directed.
- When the software installation has completed, return to the command prompt.
- Type change user /execute to return the server to Execute Mode.
Steps using the Install Application tool
The following steps illustrate using the Install Application on Remote Desktop Server tool in Citrix:
- From the Start menu, select Control Panel.
- Select Programs.
- Select Install Application on Remote Desktop Server.
- Follow the prompts to locate the installation media for the program you want to install.
