About referrals
In Medical Note, the referrals section within a patient's plan plays an important role in primary care by facilitating access to specialized care and additional services beyond the scope of the primary care provider.
Referrals are essential for patients that require specialized expertise or interventions that fall outside the realm of primary care, such as consultations with specialists, diagnostic procedures, and therapeutic interventions. The referrals section is where you document the need for a referral, detailing the specific specialty or service required and any pertinent information for the referral process.
Note: Currently, referrals entered in the referrals section do not automatically generate a referral within the system. Instead, providers are required to manually notify the appropriate staff member responsible for managing referrals, providing timely coordination and communication with the receiving healthcare provider or facility.
