Avatar MSO > Claims Processing > Claim Acknowledgement (277CA) File

  • The claim acknowledgement is generated when an 837 health care claim file is processed, and is used to report details on the number of claims accepted or rejected.
  • Claim acknowledgements do not report claim adjudication status.
  • One claim acknowledgement file can be associated with an 837 file.
  • The 277 file directory and automation settings are configured on the 277 Claim Acknowledgement section of the Import/Export File Configuration form.

Prerequisites:

  • An 837 file must be created with an associated claim acknowledgement.
  • A claim acknowledgement file must be generated when an 837 Institutional or Professional file is compiled or posted.

  1. In the Options field, select the action to perform on the claim acknowledgement file.
  • Select Create File On Server to create the claim acknowledgement file on the server.
  • Select Dump File to generate a text file of the claim acknowledgement raw data.
  • Select Run Report to generate a report that displays the claim acknowledgement details and any errors encountered during file generation.
  • Select Delete File to delete the claim acknowledgement file.

Note: If a claim acknowledgement file is deleted for an 837 submission which has already been posted then it will not be possible to regenerate it.
If the 837 submission has not yet been posted then an acknowledgement will be generated
when it is recompiled or posted and will replace the one deleted.

  1. In the Submission Type field, select whether the 837 file is Institutional or Professional.
  2. In the Select 837 File field, select the 837 file from the drop-down list.
  3. Select Submit.
