Do all staff have access to the MAR?
Answer: No, all staff does not have access to the MAR. Access to the MAR is based on Security Group and credentials. -
Does the Self Admin button always display?
Answer: No, the Self Admin button does not always display. The Program must be set to have access to the Self Admin MAR in the Administration Console > Programs and Administration Console > Medication Console > Medications > Self Admin MAR Programs tab. -
Will all the client medications display on the Current Medication listview?
Answer: No, all the client’s medications will not display on the Current Medication listview. The medications that are available to be administered for the Med Order Range will display. All of the current day’s medications will display on the Today’s Med button. -
Can an agency remove medications from the Medication List in the Administration Console?
Answer: Yes, an agency can remove medications from the Medication List. -
Does the client’s Diagnosis display on the MAR?
Answer: No, the client’s Diagnosis does not display on the MAR. -
Do the past medications administered via the MAR display in Medication History?
Answer: No, The medications from the MAR do not display in the Medication History. -
Can side effects be added to a medication?
Answer: Yes, Side Effect and/or Comments can be added on the Administered Meds page. -
If a medication was marked as missed by the system generated procedure, can the staff still administer it?
Answer: Yes, if a medication was marked as missed, system generated or by a staff member, it can still be administered to the client on the Missed Meds page. Only specified staff have permission to Administer Missed Medications. Staff will be prompted to enter their Logon ID and Password. Configuration is set up in the Medication Console > Medications > MAR Manual Time Entry tab > by Security Group. -
Can an agency define which medications are considered formulary?
Answer: Yes, an agency can define which medications are marked as formulary in the Administration Console > Medication List. Refer to the List Code column, 1= formulary, 2= Non-Formulary -
Is Micromedex part of the base product and is a license required?
Answer: Yes, Micromedex is part of the base product. A license is required to run the Check Medication drug-drug / drug-allergy contraindications. -
Can the MAR be modified/changed by an agency?
Answer: No changes should be made to the MAR forms without the authorization/approval of the TIER Product team. -
How do you know if a monitoring form was completed as part of the MAR?
Answer: At this time, only the date/time of the Monitoring form can be viewed. There is no other notification or reference on the MAR or on the attached document. -
If a document is attached to a medication order, does this mean it is required to be completed?
Answer: No, the attached document is not required. It does not have to be completed before or after the medication is administered. Staff should follow the agency’s policies and procedures. -
Are PRN (As needed) meds based on a calendar day or 24 hours from being entered?
Answer: PRN meds orders are based on a calendar day, it is not based on time. -
What is the Medication Review Note used for?
Answer: As best practices, staff should be reviewing the medication after these events: Admission, Transfer of Care/Program, Level of Care, and Discharge. Medication Reviews can be viewed on the Treatment Plan. As best practices, the Physician should be completing the clinical reconciliation. -
Do all med orders need to be noted to flow/display on the MAR?
Answer: Yes, all medication orders must be noted by the credentialed staff to display on the MAR. -
What is the difference between Nurse Note and MD Verify?
Answer: The Nurse Note tab is used to note med orders entered by the credentialed staff, and must be noted by the Nurse before displaying on the MAR. The MD Verify tab is used by the credentialed staff to review/verify the verbal/telephone order. Verbal orders go to the MAR before the MD verifies it. -
What is the med order range set to?
Answer: The Med Order Range needs to be reviewed/set by the agency. The Med Order Range is set up on the Administration Console > Medication Console > Medications > > Med Order Range tab.

If a client is on Leave of Absence (LOA), what should the staff do with the MAR meds?
Answer: If a client is on LOA, the staff can mark the meds as missed with the reason of “Client is on Leave of Absence”. If the staff does not mark the med as missed, the system generated procedure will put the “Client is on LOA” as the remark. -
Where are “High Risk” medications marked as high risk?
Answer: High Risk meds are noted/marked in the Medication Console > High Risk Meds tab. Anything coded as a 4 or 5 is a High Risk Medication. See the CSA Schedule column. -
Can a medication time be changed after it has been entered and noted?
Answer: Yes, a medication time can be changed on an existing "active" order. Navigate to the Client Facesheet > Medical/Nursing > Order > Change Med Times tab. Click once on the medication name. Select the Frequency, and then in the Med Admin Times field click the up or down arrows to select the new times. Click the Update button. Permissions for the medication time change cn be set up by Security Group in Administration Console > Medication Console > Medications > MAR Manual Time Entry tab.

When a side effect and/or comment are added, does it get added to the dose or the entire order?
Answer: On the Order form > Medication History page it will display per dosage. On the MAR it will display on the order. -
Do General Orders display on the MAR?
Answer: No, General Orders do not display on the MAR. Only medication orders display on the MAR. -
Is the co-sign list on the Current Medication page displaying the Supervisors from the HR module or is it displaying the credentialed staff that has permissions to order medications (Set up in the Administration Console > Medication Console > Medication Order Credentials tab).
Answer: The Supervisor list will display all the credentialed staff that can order medications. -
Should all agencies use the Medication Sign off and Medication Signed Off tab?
Answer: No, this functionality was created for the Ohio State Pharmacy board. It is not recommended to be used unless the agency is in Ohio. This is a configuration in Treeview Configuration. If not in Ohio this should be turned off. -
When is the Co-signatures tab used on the Clinical Console – Medication Administration?
Answer: This Co-signature tab on the Clinical Console is used for High Risk Medications only. This is a configuration in Treeview Configuration. If not using High Risk Medications this should be turned off. -
Can a medication be removed from the MAR?
Answer: No a medication cannot be removed from the MAR. A medication can be “Marked as Missed” or if it is no longer needed, the medication order needs to be discontinued. -
Can an agency change or add to the missed meds reasons?
Answer: Yes, an agency can change or add to the missed meds reasons. -
Can a medication be placed on Hold?
Answer: Yes, a medication can be placed on hold so it can be administered later the same day, if the frequency attributes allow it to be placed on Hold. -
Can an agency limit the medications that a staff can see/administer on the MAR?
Answer: Yes, only staff with the appropriate credentials have access to administer medications. -
Can an agency change the time-frame as to when the system automatically marks a med as missed?
Answer: Yes, an agency can change the time when the system automatically marks the meds as missed. Typically this is set to run every hour, after that it falls out of the Administration time (med order range) window. -
If an order is entered, but it is not displaying on the MAR, what should be checked?
Answer: If an order was entered and it is not displaying on the MAR, check to see if the med order was Noted or it the order has been final saved. Also, check if the Pharmacy Console is On. -
Can a pharmacy interface be used in conjunction with the MAR?
Answer: Yes, a pharmacy interface can be used in conjunction with the MAR. Contact the NTST CAE for a time/cost estimate. -
Can meds prescribed in OrderConnect appear on the MAR?
Answer: Yes, medication orders that are entered in OrderConnect can go directly to the MAR, if configured in the Medication Console > Medications > MAR from Prescriptions tab. -
Can a program use both the MAR and the Self Admin MAR?
Answer: Yes, a program can use both the MAR and Self Admin MAR. Refer to the agency’s policies and procedures. -
What is the recommended MAR range time?
Answer: The recommended MAR range time is determined by the agency. -
Can I order a med as a STAT order, so it shows immediately on the MAR?
Answer: Yes, a STAT medication order can be entered. Then the order must be “Noted” to show immediately on the MAR. -
If a staff member accidently clicked the Admin Med button by mistake, can it be undone?
Answer: No, if a staff member accidently clicked the Admin Med button by mistake it cannot be undone. Enter a Comment for the accidently administer med. Then, a new med order will need to be entered as a STAT order for the medication. It must be noted to display on the MAR. -
Do lab orders display on the MAR?
Answer: No, lab orders do not display on the MAR. The MAR is used for medication orders. -
What SQL jobs need to be setup for the MAR?
Answer: The SQL jobs that need to be setup for the MAR are:- Create Next Doses
- Mark Medication Status
- Mark Medications Missed

Answer: Micromedex is a comprehensive drug resource with content covering dosage, cautions, comparative efficacy, labeled and off-label indications. It also checks for drug interaction such as drug-drug, drug-food, drug-disease, drug-ethanol, drug- pregnancy, drug-lactation.
