TFM Restoring and Backing Up

A TFM file contains the TIER object control information of a form. The TCM file is a cached copy of a form that originally came from the database. This file is overwritten each time it is opened. TFM files are stored locally by default in the following location:

C:\Program Files\Sequest Technologies\TIER®\Cache

To change this location:

  1. Within the TIER Tree View right-lick on This Workstation (or the Top Most Level).
  2. Select Properties then select Other Paths
  3. Change the location for Local Cache Folder for Tier Forms.

TFM files allow forms to be moved from one database to another. To accomplish this, complete the following steps:

  1. Determine the cache file name by right-clicking the form and selecting restore.
  2. Determine and note where the Cache directory is kept.
  3. Now that you know the file name and path, copy and paste the TCM file to any Windows location you have access to or email the file for use at a different location.
  4. Restore the form. There are two ways to restore a TFM file. The first method will create a form that gets a new TFM filename, and the second method will create a form that retains the TFM filename of the existing form.

Occasionally, when a TFM file is restored, the buttons, lookups, and initialization may be disconnected.  To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:

  1. Select properties of the form and fix TABLE NAME.
  2. Open the form in Design View and reconnect:
    1. Buttons
    2. Lookups
    3. Initializations
