Windows and Options
Welcome to Homecare Window
In the Welcome to Homecare window, you must enter your login and password to access the application. You can also select the server you want to use if you have access to more than one server. When logging in to a field unit, you can synchronize your data with the data on the server.
This window consists of the following fields:
- User Name – Enter your username.
Note: If this field is unavailable, and a supervisor wants to access the laptop in Field Mode, right-click to access the Supervisor Override option. A supervisor with the appropriate permissions can then log in and upload any unsynchronized data.
- Password – Enter your password.
If you forgot your password, click the Forgot your password link to see a password hint or reset your password based on the security settings defined in the Password Vault Window in Administration>Configuration>Operators.
Note: The Forgot your password link is not available for technical support staff or when using supervisor override in Field Mode.
When you click the Forgot your password link, the Password Hint dialog opens displaying your password hint if it was defined in the Password Vault window. If so, you can click the Reset Password button and correctly answer three security questions in the Reset Password dialog. The answers are not case sensitive, but they must exactly match the answer entered in the Password Vault window. To check your answers, click the Check Answers button. After answering all questions correctly, you can enter your new password and its confirmation in the appropriate fields.
- Server – Specify the name of the server you want to access. Right-click to access the Configure Server(s) window.
Configure Server(s) Window
With the Configure Server(s) window, you can add, edit, or delete a server to which your application can be connected. You must enter the server IP (Internet Protocol) address, server name or description, and server port. For more information on how to work with records, see Working with Records in the Grid.
Updating Homecare Window
The Updating Homecare window opens when there is a new version of the software on the server that you need to download to your workstation. There are two kinds of updates: optional and mandatory. If the update on the server is optional, you can either download it and then synchronize or synchronize and then download the update. If the update on the server is mandatory, you must download it before synchronizing.
This window consists of the following fields:
- Synchronize without program update – Select to synchronize your data without downloading an update from the server.
- Don't ask me this again – Select to verify your Business Unit switch every time you change Business Units.
Opening Homecare Dialog
With the Opening Homecare dialog, you can select the application components you want to open and a Business Unit you want to use when you enter the application. You can also set up to apply your selection every time you enter the application and specify whether you want to see the Opening Homecare dialog when entering the application.
This dialog opens automatically when you log in to Homecare, unless you have previously specified that you do not want it to open.
This dialog consists of the following fields:
- Choose a Business Unit – Select an appropriate Business Unit from the list of Business Units to which you have access.
- Restore previous configuration – Select to use the same components as in your previous session.
- Begin with – Select the check boxes next to the components you want to open.
- Make this my default starting configuration – Select to open the specified components every time you log in.
- Don't show this dialog again – Select if you do not want to view this dialog every time you log in to Homecare.
Note: If you select not to show this dialog again, you can change the opening configuration later using the Startup tab of the application settings.
Action Items Due Dialog
When you log in, the application determines if you have any actions due, including collection notes, within the time determined in the Action due lead time field in Administration>Configuration>Business Units>Settings>Administration. If you do, the Action Items Due dialog appears with the open action items assigned to you. In this dialog, you can skip doing the assigned actions, print actions, or mark actions as complete. Any outdated items appear in red.
Use the following options for managing action items assigned to you:
- Complete – Select if the action in the selected line is complete.
- Print – Click to print a list of the actions due.
- Continue – Click to save changes and continue logging in.
- Skip – Click to log in without saving changes.
- Complete All – Click to mark all actions as complete.
Disconnected from Server Dialog
The Disconnected from Server dialog opens when you are working in Host Mode and lose your connection to the server. The disconnection can happen for a number of reasons and is usually temporary. You can reconnect and continue working without losing any unsaved data.
You can click the following buttons to perform the appropriate actions:
- Reconnect – Click to reconnect to the server.
- Retry – Click to try again to reconnect to the server.
- Continue in Field Mode – Click to continue working disconnected from the server if Homecare cannot reconnect.
- Exit Homecare – Click to exit the application.
Calendar Dialog
With the Calendar dialog, you can select a date. This dialog is available in most date fields when you click the down arrow. To move in the calendar back and forth a month at a time, use the left and right arrows. To move in the calendar back and forth a year at a time, use the up and down arrows. Click on a date to select it. Click Today to select the current date.
Set Time Dialog
The Set Time dialog is available in most time-related fields in Allscripts Homecare. To access the dialog, click the down arrow in any field that requires you to enter time.
This dialog consists of the following fields:
- Now – Click to set the current time as the start time.
- Clear – Click to clear the Time field.
- Increase Hour – Click the up arrow to increase the start time hour to the needed value. Be sure to select AM or PM as appropriate.
- Decrease Hour – Click the down arrow to decrease the start time hour to the needed value. Be sure to select AM or PM as appropriate.
- Increase Minutes in Ten-Minute Increments – Click the up arrow to increase the start time minutes by ten-minute increments to the needed value.
- Decrease Minutes in Ten-Minute Increments – Click the down arrow to decrease the start time minutes by ten-minute increments to the needed value.
- Increase Minutes – Click the up arrow to increase the start time minutes to the needed value.
- Decrease Minutes – Click the down arrow to decrease the start time minutes to the needed value.
Select Date Dialog
With the Select Date dialog, you can select a date to link a clinical item to a service or a resource.
This dialog consists of the following fields:
- Connect to Visit/Telephone Call – Select to attach the needed clinical item to a visit or telephone call in the Select Service Dialog.
Note: Only visits and telephone calls listed in Transactions>General>TimeLog as services for the selected patient appear in the Select Service window.
- Provided by – Select the resource who provided the visit that you want to associate with the selected clinical item. You can click the Select Myself icon (
) and automatically attach the visit to you or click the ellipsis button and search for the appropriate resource in the Select a Resource dialog. If the selected resource has more than one associated role, you must also select an appropriate role for that resource. - On – Specify the date of the service.
Homecare Toolbar
The Homecare toolbar appears in all components and allows you to quickly access other components and perform common actions such as saving, clearing fields, adding rows, accessing Help, and so on.
Select Service Dialog
The Select Services dialog lists all services scheduled for a patient and allows you to select the service you want to view or edit. You can specify the date starting from which the services will be shown. In this dialog, you can view information about the resource that performed a service, resource discipline, resource type, date of providing a service, service code, and insurance code. You can also sort your results by the needed parameters.
Current User Dialog
Help > Show Current User
The Current User dialog displays the login and name of the operator who is currently using the workstation.
About Homecare Dialog
Help > About Homecare
The About Homecare dialog shows the version and release number of the application, the current Business Unit, and the current user. It also lists all third-party software used within the application.
Data Verification Messages
When you enter information in a window, and then exit it, Homecare checks whether you have entered all the required information. In many cases, you can also confirm that you really want to perform a certain action.
The following topics describe the common messages that Homecare uses to help you verify the information you enter:
Incomplete Fields Message
When you close a window, an error message displays all the required fields that you have not completed. In many cases, you can click on the field name link and go directly to that field. You must complete the required fields before you can save and close a window.
Confirmation Message
With the confirmation message, you can cancel the current action or confirm that it is correct. Be sure to read the confirmation message carefully before making your decision to continue.

Working with Records in the Grid
When working with the records in a grid, you can perform the following actions:
- Add new records – Click to add a row at the bottom of the grid or click to insert a row in the grid.
- Edit records – Select the needed row and make the necessary changes.
- Delete records – Select the needed row and click.
Using the mouse:
Position the mouse pointer over the field, grid column, or button you want to move to and click the left button once. If you moved to an empty field or grid column, the pointer appears in the field or column and you can enter information. If you moved to a completed field or grid column, the information there is highlighted and you can override it. If you moved to a button and clicked it, the action associated with the button is performed.
Using the keyboard:
You can usually press Tab to move to the next field, grid column, or button. When you move to a field or grid column, the pointer appears there and you can enter information. When you move to a button or group of radio buttons, a dotted outline appears around the button or radio button indicating it is active. Press Enter to perform the action associated with the active button.
Working with Text
The Homecare application supports standard Windows procedures for text cutting, copying, or pasting. To cut, copy, or paste the text, click the appropriate buttons on the application toolbar. You can also use the standard keyboard shortcuts:
- To cut the text, click Ctrl+X
- To copy the text, click Ctrl+C
- To paste the text, click Ctrl+V
Note: You cannot cut or copy all text in a window. Generally, cutting and copying is limited to the text in free-text fields. You can paste text only if you have previously cut or copied it.
Viewing Help
You can view the application Help or Help topic for the current window or field. To view Help, perform one of the following actions as appropriate:
- To view application Help, go to Help>Help Contents or click Help Contents on the toolbar.
- To view Help for the current window, go to Help>Window Help or click Window Help on the toolbar. You can also use keyboard shortcut (Alt+F1).
- To view Help for the current field, place the pointer in the field and press F1.
Note: Click the Using HTML Help button in the Homecare Help window or the Help button in the Help window for instructions on using Help.
Determining How Windows Open
- Close all open windows.
- Make sure the outlook bar is visible.
- At the bottom of the outlook bar, select one of the following options:
- Open as Window radio button to open each window separately.
- Open as Tab radio button to open each window as a tab within the same frame.
- Open the appropriate windows.
Displaying the Outlook Bar
By default, the Outlook bar is hidden.
- To show the Outlook bar, click the Hide/Show Outlook bar control located halfway down the left edge of the window.
Selecting a Business Unit
- Go to File>Select Business Unit.
- From the list of Business Units that you have access to, select the appropriate Business Unit.
- Click OK.
Switching Business Units
- Go to File>Switch Business Unit>[new Business Unit name]. Only Business Units you have access to appear in this list.
- Confirm your choice and click OK.
Viewing the Current User
- Go to Help>Show Current User.
In this window, you can view the name and login of the user who is currently logged in.
Viewing the Application Version
- Go to Help > About Netsmart Homecare.
The open dialog shows the version and release number of the application, the current Business Unit, and the current user. It also lists all third-party software used within the application.
Disconnecting from the Server
- Go to File>Disconnect from Server. The application remains open and the disconnection takes place immediately.
Operator Logging Out
- Go to File>Logout Operator [OPERATOR NAME].
- Click OK.
The Welcome to Netsmart Homecare dialog opens where you can enter the other credentials.
