myEvolv NIAM login process

The Netsmart Identity Access Manager (NIAM) provides increased security for accessing myEvolv and other Netsmart solutions. For agencies using myEvolv and NIAM, users will have a slightly different login experience than those not using NIAM.

Release consideration: NIAM is available in myEvolv as of the 10.1.0350 release.

How NIAM works

The user enters their username and password to log in to myEvolv, and the login process performs the standard myEvolv security checks (blocked IP, blocked user, end-dated user, and so on). When the login is successful, this creates a token in the browser for that particular user. Once this token is created, opening a new instance of myEvolv in the same browser session only requires the user to enter the same username, as this second tab will use the existing token (assuming that the user is allowed more than one login).

Note: Because standard myEvolv security checks are performed, it's possible to log in to NIAM and be blocked by myEvolv. NIAM also can be set up with security settings such as the number of incorrect passwords and also two-factor authentication.

A few things to note:

  • Because a token is created for the browser session, logging back in after successfully logging out of myEvolv only requires entering the same username.
  • The time-out feature in myEvolv continues to work as expected with NIAM. After the user is authenticated through NIAM and a token is created in the browser, logging back in after a time-out only requires entering the same username. (A password is required if NIAM is configured to require a password be entered after a configurable number of minutes.)
  • To switch to a different user, close the browser session (not just the tab that is running myEvolv).
  • A user that is set up in NIAM to access multiple Netsmart solutions can log in to myEvolv then open another NIAM-integrated Netsmart solution and have a streamlined login.
  • Embedded logins within myEvolv for Netsmart solutions such as OrderConnect, BedBoard, and CareConnect Inbox will work the same with or without NIAM as these solutions have a separate user authentication process.
  • If a user has multiple myEvolv instances open in the same browser session, logging out of one session will time-out any other myEvolv instance.
  • If a user tries to log in with a different staff ID than the original browser session, they are required to start a new session.
