Require Reason Code - Registry Setting

Define whether the Reason Code field is required in the Client Profile / Physicians Orders form.

  • 'Y' for 'Yes'
  • 'N' for 'No'
  • 'PRN' for PRN orders only

The Require Reason Code registry setting affects the Require Reason Code extended data element for the Order Types dictionary in the following ways:

  • If 'PRN Orders Only' is selected in the Order Code extended data element Require Reason Code, then all PRN orders of this order type will have the Reason Code field required, even if the registry setting is set to 'N'.
  • Only when the the registry setting is set to 'N' will the Order Type extended data element Require Reason Code always be the determining factor for requiring a reason code.
  • If the registry setting is set to 'PRN', then the Order Type extended data element Require Reason Code, if set to 'Y', will cause the reason code to be required for orders codes of that order type.
  • If the registry setting is set to 'Y', then the reason code will always be required, regardless of how the Order Type extended data element Require Reason Code is set.
