'1' allows users to create a second REF segment in the following 837 formats/loops:

  • 837 Professional:
    • Referring Provider Name (2310A)
    • Rendering Provider Name (2310B)
    • Supervising Provider Name (2310D/2310E)
    • Other Payer Rendering Provider (2330D/2330E)
    • Rendering Provider Name (2420A)
    • Referring Provider Name (2420F)
  • 837 Institutional:
    • Provider Name (2310A)
    • Other Operating Physician Name (2310C)

This is accomplished by adding the fields Practitioner Secondary Identification Qualifier - 2 (837 Electronic Billing) and Practitioner Secondary Identifier - 2 (837 Electronic Billing) to the forms Practitioner Numbers By Guarantor And Program, and Referral Source Numbers By Guarantor And Program. The second REF iteration will not be created unless there is at least some information on file necessary for the creation of the first iteration.

'2' allows users to include the Demonstration Project Identifier (2300-REF) segment in the 837 Professional and Institutional bill (HIPAA version 5010 only). This is accomplished by the following:

  • The field Demonstration Project Identifier (2300-REF-02) will be added to the following forms:
    • Service Fee/Cross Reference Maintenance
    • HCFA-1500/837P Billing Maintenance Screen
    • UB-92/UB-04/837I Billing Maintenance Screen
  • The fields Enable Demonstration Project Identifier (2300-REF) and Demonstration Project Identifier (2300-REF-02) will be added to the Guarantor/Program Billing Defaults form.
  • The 837 Professional and Institutional bills (HIPAA version 5010 only) will be sorted by the Demonstration Project Identifier (2300-REF).

 Multiple values can be selected if separated by an '&'.

'0' disables the above functionality.
