Result Notification Configuration

In myAvatar Order Entry, use the Result Notification Configuration form to determine which lab tests should notify a specific user or users.  

This table lists and describes the fields on the Result Notification Configuration form. 

Field Description
Add/Edit Add a new result notification or edit an existing configuration.
Select Existing Notification Type Only enabled when Edit is selected for Add/Edit. Select from a list of previously filed notification configurations. 
Notification Type Code

Only enabled when Add is selected for Add/Edit. This field allows up to 20 characters and is not visible to users. 

Notification Type Description Enabled when Add or Edit is selected and a value from the Select Existing Notification Type is selected. The Notification Type Description is visible in the Notifications Setup form when you define how the notification appears to users. 
Active/Inactive Enabled when Add or Edit is selected and a value from the Select Existing Notification Type is selected. Allows a facility to optionally activate or inactivate previously defined result notification configurations.

Notify On Result Type

Allows the facility to determine when to trigger sending the result notification:

  • Normal - Notification(s) are generated when all observations within the result are normal. The only resulting notification indicates normal results.
  • Abnormal - Notification(s) are generated when any observations within the result are abnormal. The only resulting notification indicates abnormal results.
  • All - Notification(s) are generated regardless of whether the observations within the result are abnormal or normal.
Notify User On Result

Enabled when Add or Edit is selected and a value from the Select Existing Notification Type is selected. Allows a facility to select a subset of users to be notified of the result depending on the previously indicated Result Type.

  • Attending Practitioner - Selecting this option notifies the Attending Practitioner for the client for which the result was received. (The Attending Practitioner is specified in the Admission form.)
  • Admitting Practitioner - Selecting this option notifies the admitting practitioner for the client for which the result was received. (The Admitting Practitioner is specified in the Admission form.)
  • Teams Staff - Client Assigned Teams - Selecting this option notifies all staff members assigned to teams for the client receiving results. (Manage a client's associated team in the Client Team Assignment form.)
  • Teams Staff - Specific Team(s) - Selecting this option notifies all staff members assigned to a specific/selected team. (Manage teams in the Team Definition form.)
  • Caseload Staff - Selecting this option notifies all staff members who have the client receiving results in their caseload limited to only Staff Categories selected in the Select Staff Category field.
  • Ordering Practitioner - Selecting this option notifies the attending practitioner for the order associated with the received result.
Result To Do Type

The Result To Do Type only applies when a To Do notification is selected for the Result Notification Configuration in the Notifications Setup form.

  • View Result - a View Result to-do notification is sent to the specified user(s) selected in the Notify User On Result field. This view-only type of To Do displays in the Additional To Dos section with no ability to mark the result as Reviewed within the To Do list.
  • Review Result - a Review Result to-do notification is sent to the specified user(s) selected in the Notify User On Result field. This type of To Do includes the result Graph and the ability to mark the result as Reviewed within the To Do list.
Tests To Notify On Result

The values displayed in this field are limited to order codes with the Lab order type category. If no order codes (tests) are selected, then all tests send a To Do.

Select Teams

This field is enabled when "Teams Staff - Specific Team(s)" is selected in the Notify User On Result field.

Selecting a team or teams notifies all staff members assigned to the selected team or teams. 

Teams are managed in the Team Definition form.

Select Staff Category This field is enabled when Caseload Staff is selected in the Notify User On Result field. Only selected staff categories that have the client receiving results within their caseload receive a notification.

After filing a Result Notification configuration, use the Notifications Setup form to manage the notifications generated. The Notifications Setup form is where you define the type of notification (Pop-Up, To-Do, Email, Text Message).

Note: Install Avatar CWS 2024 Update 20 to migrate the existing Results Entry and Results Entry (Abnormal) notifications to the Result Notification Configuration form. These notifications appear as Results Entry: Ordering Practitioner and Results Entry: Ordering Practitioner (Abnormal) in the Notifications Setup form.
