myAvatar InfoChannel Module

The myAvatar InfoChannel module is designed to synchronize EHR (e.g. Avatar) data in OrderConnect as a response to events in the EHR environment.

The transfer of information is real-time (via web services) and replaces the myAvatar Diagnosis File For InfoChannel module, which is file based. The InfoChannel web services are hosted via CareConnect and provide reliable communication, high performance, debugging and monitoring functionality, and are backward compatible with EHRs so upgrades are not required.

Requirements

This new InfoChannel module is required for the following implementations:

  • Meaningful Use 2014 Edition
  • Micromedex version of OrderConnect
  • ICD-10 Implementation

Security

To maintain security of the Protected Health Information (PHI) included in the messages, InfoChannel web services will be implemented using a secure HTTPS connection. In addition, the messages will be hashed to ensure they are received unchanged from the transmission.

Features

Note: InfoChannel web services synchronize EHR information for patient demographics and patient diagnoses.

Patient Demographics - The patient’s name, address, contact information, basic biometrics, payors, etc. are sent following a change in the EHR or as a response to some other sync event.

Patient Diagnoses - The last active record of diagnoses contained within open (active) episodes are sent following any change to patient diagnoses in the EHR or as a response to some other sync event. Any diagnoses that had been sent previously by myAvatar and not received from this message will be ended with today’s date. The myAvatar InfoChannel module is required in order to support ICD-10 and DSM-5 diagnoses. In this version, attribute code sets have been added and attributes for code, type, and axis are no longer needed.

Allergies - Allergies are now standardized using content from Micromedex. Any changes made to the allergies within the EHR or as a response to another sync event will update the allergies within OrderConnect including ending any allergies that are no longer sent with the active allergies. As with diagnoses, only allergies previously sent from the EHR will be ended.

Clinical Reconciliation - In order to facilitate medication reconciliation, all of a patient’s medications to be ordered, input, or discontinued in OrderConnect will be sent via the web service. This list may include OrderConnect medications or Non-ISC (patient-reported) medications and also discontinue requests for existing OrderConnect Rx or Non-ISC records.

Meaningful Use 2014 Edition - CareFabric Event Configuration - Additional setup is required for a system being enabled for the Meaningful Use 2014 Edition. All data will be routed through the Netsmart Cloud before populating into OrderConnect. This requires setup with the CareFabric Configuration form that is part of the Meaningful Use Installation and Configuration process. There will be no changes noticed to the front-end user when this configuration is initiated.
