Blade server installation

If you are using a blade server, the following installation steps may resolve problems encountered when trying to use myAvatar Signature.  This procedure has not been fully tested or approved by Netsmart; it was developed by another Topaz customer.

A blade server is a server chasis that houses multiple thin, modular circuit boards known as "blades." Each blade is essentially a server dedicated to a single application, while the chasis enclosure provides the power, cooling, connectivity, and management.

On the Citrix Server

  1. Connect to the server via an RDP session.
  2. Start a command prompt, and type: net use.
  3. A list of mappings should display; ensure that COM1 is not in the list.
  4. Install SigPlus to COM1 by running the SigPlus installation software and choosing COM1 for the port.
  5. Change or modify the registry setting that stores connection information for serial connections:
    1. Look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\SERIALCOMM
    2. The Topaz device installed on the server connects to \\Device\Serial0 by default with Data value COM1; the COM1 value needs to be removed.
    3. If needed, create COM1 key and assign Data value COM1.
    4. The COM1 key is created after the net use command is applied correctly; this setting does not need to be modified, only verified.
  6. Copy the SigPlus.ini file (typically found in C:\Windows) to ALL user profiles on the Citrix server at C:\Documents and Settings\User\Windows.
  7. Save files to a network share.
  8. Publish DOS as an application on the Citrix server that is running SigPlus.
  9. Grant access to the DOS published application to all signature pad users.

On the Workstation

  1. Log onto the workstation with Administrator rights.
  2. Install SigPlusBSB to COM1 by running the SigPlusBSB installation software and choosing COM1 for the port.
    1. If you are using a serial pad instead of the BSB model, install SigPlus in place of SigPlusBSB.
  3. Restart the workstation.
  4. Log onto the workstation as a user.
  5. Copy the SigPlus.ini file to the user profile at C:\Documents and Settings\User\Windows.
  6. Run the published DOS application.
  7. Log onto a Citrix session as a user.
  8. Run net use in the published DOS session.
  9. A list of mappings should display.
    1. If the DOS window states that the connection will NOT be remembered, run net use /Persistent:YES (in the published DOS session).
    2. Run net use again in the published DOS session.
    3. The DOS window should state that the connection will be remembered.
  10. Log out of the Citrix session.
  11. Run the published DOS application.
  12. Run net use COM1: \\Client\COM1 (in the published DOS session).
  13. Test the signature application.
  14. Repeat steps 1-13 for ALL users using the signature pads per workstation.
