Manage a response to a 278 request file.

  • The Health Care Services Review Request File will populate all 278 files that have been successfully submitted in the Health Care Services Review (278) Request form.

  • This form will create a 278 file the provider can load, that details the authorization status for all requested authorizations.

  • All service authorizations created when a 278 request file is submitted will have a status of Pending unless the request file status is affected by the Enable Automatic Authorization Approvals registry setting.

Prerequisites:

  • In order to generate a 278 response file:

  • A 278 request must be by compiled and posted in the Health Care Services Review (278) Request form.

  • A service authorization will be generated.

  • The location to store 278 files (Billing Options field - Create File On Server), must be defined in the Set System Defaults form (Output Directory field).

  1. In the Health Care Services Review Request File field, select the file.

  2. In the Billing Options field:

  • Select Sort File to compile services for viewing, or for creating claims.

  • Select Dump File to generate a text file of the compiled file.

  • Select Create File On Server to create the electronic file on the server.

  1. In the File Type field:

  • Select Production to create a file for production.

  • Select Test to create a file for testing.

  1. Click Process Response.
    The File Contents field displays details of the 278 response file.
