Use the ESC key

Overview

Use the Esc key in data entry on TIER documents to undo a change or in Form Design to move to the next level in TIER.

Esc key in data entry on TIER documents

To understand how the Esc key will undo a change, open a TIER document and begin typing into a TierEdit. Press the Esc key on the keyboard and notice that the data that was typed disappears. Keep in mind that the use of the Esc key only works while focus is on the control. Once the focus changes to a different control, you cannot use the Esc key to remove the data entered into the previous TierEdit.

A few notes about the Esc key functionality:

  • While this does work to remove data in a TierEdit and TierLookupCombo, it does not work to remove data in TierMemos, Checkboxes or RadioPanels.
  • The Esc key only works on the control that has focus. If a TierLookupCombo is part of a Lookup Group (for example, staff name and staffkey), pressing the Esc key will only change the value of the control which has focus on it. The other invisible controls will not change. To remove the data in all TierLookupCombos in the same Lookup Group at once, use the Delete key instead.

Esc key in Form Design

Using the Esc key in Form Design takes you up to the next level in TIER. This can best be seen by clicking on a TierEdit on a TabSheet. Press the Esc key once and the focus changes from the TierEdit to the TabSheet. Press the Esc key again, and this time the focus changes from the TabSheet to the TierPages. Press Esc one more time and the focus goes to the TierForm, which is the highest level on the form.
