To Click or To Enter

Overview

Modify a button so that a user can either press the Enter key or use a mouse click to complete a button action.

Details

All users have their preferences when working with an application. One preference might be to press the Enter key instead of clicking a button with the mouse.

For example, on a console that has a panel on the left that allows a user to enter search criteria, they would complete the data entry via the keyboard and click the Search button with the mouse. It might be easier for them to solely use the keyboard. You can modify the button in Form Design so they can use the keyboard instead of clicking the mouse, as illustrated below.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the design for the console and click the Search button.
  2. In the Object Inspector, for the Default property select the check box. Now the user can either click the Search button with the mouse or press the Enter key to initiate the search.

The base Clinician and Billing Consoles are good examples of where to apply this modification.
