Business Units – Settings – Orders Settings

Using the Orders Settings Business Unit settings, you can define the general orders settings to be applied on the Business Units level. The options that can be defined on this tab include:

  • Type of Supplemental Orders
  • Interval Method
  • Orders Interval Type
  • Orders Interval
  • Generate Supplemental Orders for Visit Frequency Schedule Changes
  • Allow future dated items on Certification Orders
  • Accumulated Orders Settings
  • Allow pre-admission orders
  • Effective order day(s) range
  • Supplemental Orders for Diagnoses Updates
  • Verbal Order Defaults

Type of Supplemental Orders

Select one of the supplemental order types produced by your agency:

  • Y – Consolidated
  • N – Non-consolidated
  • X – No supplements
Interval Method

Select the appropriate order interval method (the day of the month that you want to use when defining the order interval):

  • B – Use the day of the month from the initial certification date.
  • L – Use the day of the month from the most recent certification date.
Orders Interval Type

Select the interval type you want to use to for the Orders Interval setting:

  • D – Day
  • W – Week
  • M – Month

The application uses this order interval when there is no order interval defined for the applicable insurance code.

Note: This field initially defaults using implied rules: 1-4=months, 5-13=weeks, else days. You can change this field as appropriate.

Orders Interval

Enter the number of days, weeks, or months (depending on the Orders Interval Type setting) to indicate how often physician orders must be renewed from 1 and higher.

Note: Entering amounts higher than 99 can be necessary for Hospice Assisted Living Facilities usage. This setting also affects the certification tabs within the Visit Frequency window in Patient>Clinical.

Generate Supplemental Orders for Visit Frequency Schedule Changes

This option shows whether supplemental orders for changes in visit frequency should be automatically scheduled; it is available for editing on the Clinical Miscellaneous tab in the Visit Frequency section.

Allow future dated items on Certification Orders

Select to allow the start date of a care plan, goal, or intervention to be greater than the admission date. This feature also affects the ability to print medications and clinical notes that have future dates on certification orders.

Accumulated Orders Settings
  • Delay Time: Release Certification Orders: <X> day(s) after Admission Date – Enter the number of days after a patient's admission date that the application should release certification orders.
  • Lead Time: Release Recertification Orders: <X> day(s) after Recertification Date – Enter the number of days before a patient's recertification date that the application should release certification orders.
Allow pre-admission orders

Select to generate, print, and sign orders for patients who are not yet admitted to the agency.

Effective order day(s) range

Enter the number of days prior to admission that the pre-admission orders are allowed.

Supplemental Orders for Diagnoses Updates
  • For Start Diagnosis – Select not to produce supplemental orders for start diagnosis. The Do Not Create Order column becomes available on the Medical Diagnoses tab of the Diagnoses window in Patient > General.
  • For End Diagnosis – Select not to produce supplemental orders for end diagnosis. The Do Not Create End Order column becomes available on the Medical Diagnoses tab of the Diagnoses window in Patient > General.
Verbal Order Defaults

Verbal Order default settings are made on the business unit level and will impact legacy and mobile tablet users.

Select the Received Date and Time checkbox if you want to populate the date and time the order is entered as the default.If this option is not selected, the date and time will remain empty until a user enters a date or time.

Select the clinical items to have Verbal Order required and selected by default:

  • Care Plans
  • Clinical Notes
  • Diagnosis
  • Visit Frequency
  • Medications

Note: Verbal Order information can still be entered for clinical items that are not selected by default.
