Reports
Resolved an issue that caused a ‘Canvas does not allow drawing.’ when printing reports in a Citrix environment. The new mhc.exe Command Line parameter /UseScreenAsDefaultPrinter has been added to change the default printer selection. This parameter can handle a bad printer selection for clients with Canvas errors.
Enabling the Let Windows manage my default printer option on the Citrix server is recommended. This allows Citrix to utilize a valid printer for the session. However, if an improperly configured printer is set as a default printer on the user side, a report generation problem may still occur. In addition, the issue may affect other sessions sharing the same Citrix server.
Should the ‘Canvas does not allow drawing.’ error continues after enabling the Let Windows manage my default printer option, the following steps are to be taken:
- Ensure that a default printer has been defined.
- Identify what Windows Default Printer is selected in Windows> Settings> Printers & Scanners.
- Select a different printer as the default printer.
- Save the updated selection.
- Please return it to the original printer and set it to the default printer.
- Log out and log back into Netsmart Homecare (to pick up the Windows Default Printer selections).
Even after these steps, Citrix may still attempt to utilize a bad printer (i.e., not available or utilizing an incorrect driver) as the default printer, causing the Canvas error. When no default printer is defined, the Homecare application print action uses the Screen printer as the default. In this scenario, the solution is to let the Homecare application print action use the Screen printer as the default. The user can then select other printers. The drawback to this workflow is that the user must always change their printer selection, as the screen printer is for preview only and cannot be used for report generation.
The new Command-Line parameter /UseScreenAsDefaultPrinter changes the application’s default printer selection. Clients still encountering the Canvas error after the above can enable this parameter, and the error should only happen when the bad printer is selected.

KB0076860 v0.01
- Reduced memory usage during loading.
- Opinionized the processing algorithm.
- Moved the PECOS loading logic from the midnight processing into Background Processing.
- The PECOS data retrieval now starts every night after Midnight processing has been completed. If the initial attempt is unsuccessful (most commonly because all of the connections to CMS are being utilized), the application will retry after a random value between 5 and 15 minutes. The retries will repeat up to 30 times until the PECOS data has been retrieved.

An incorrect (a partial future update) SN-Nursing Patient Assessment Template was deployed in the v24.1 server-based Assessment Template folder. While this template was not noted as requiring installation, it is now replaced with the current SN-Nursing template to prevent the attempt to install an incompatible template.
