Handling medications when patient enters IPU

Path: Patient>Clinical>Medications

When a patient that is admitted on Hospice and enters the IPU, Netsmart Homecare application can simplify that process for you by taking the following steps.

  1. Go to Patient>Clinical>Medications
  2. Select medication
  3. Select Modification Details button
  4. Enter the name of person who may administer the medication in the May Administer field.
  5. The Edit Medication dialog appears when you first go to enter in May Administer field. The radio button for “Changing a medication will cause the selected medication to be discontinued and a copy of the medication added, allowing you to make changes”
  6. Select OK
  7. In the Verbal Order, Order Received Info dialog box, check Start if verbal order
    1. Enter the Date Order Received
    2. Enter the Time Order Received
    3. Select End, if verbal end order is received
    4. Enter the Date End Order Received
    5. Enter the Time End Order Received
    6. Select OK
  8. Complete entry of May Administer field
  9. Select Save
  10. In the Confirm dialog select Yes.
  11. In the Add Medication to MAR dialog
    1. Select PRN and/or Scheduled
    2. In the Post to MAR Duration (if applicable) and select day or range
    3. Enter the Frequency  by selecting from the predefined dropdown or create a custom frequency
    4. Select OK

The Medication now has a MAR attached to it and may be documented on as needed in Patient>Clinical>MAR.
