Discontinue medications for a patient

Path: Patient>Clinical>Medications

You can:

Discontinue a specific medication
  1. In the Patient component, select a patient.
  2. Go to Clinical>Medications.
  3. Select Discontinue a Specific Medication
  4. Select the medication you want to discontinue.
  5. In the End Date column, enter the date to discontinue the medication. Note: The end date earlier than the start date is allowed. If you are using MAR (About MAR), the medication end date and time must be not earlier than the last documented MAR date and time for this medication.
  6. Save your changes.
  7. Click the Modification Details tab.
  8. If the physician ending the medication is other than the primary physician, enter the ID of the physician who ended the medication in the End Physician ID field.
  9. If you do not want a supplemental order to be created for ending this medication, select the No End Supplement check box.
  10. If needed, enter the reason for discontinuing the medication in the Reason for End text box, up to 100 free-text characters.
  11. Save your changes.
Discontinue several medications at once
  1. In the Patient component, select a patient.
  2. Go to Clinical>Medications.
  3. Select Discontinuing Several Medications at Once.
  4. Click Discontinue All.
  5. Specify the end date for discontinuing medications.
  6. Note: The end date earlier than the start date is allowed. If you are using MAR, the medication end date and time must be not earlier than the last documented MAR date and time for this medication.
  7. Specify the end physician.
  8. Select the medications to be discontinued.
    Note: Medications with the 'Held' status also appear in this dialog and can be discontinued.
  9. For each medication, select whether to generate an end supplemental order.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Save your changes. 
    Note: The Discontinue All functionality does not cover medication groups and they should be ended separately.
